Born on March 13, 1979, Gonçalo Villaverde holds a degree in International Relations. Son of Algarvios, it was in Benafim, municipality of Loulé, that began to capture the first images within the area of Documentary Photography. He fell hopelessly in love and completely changed the course of his professional life.
Between 2006 and 2008, he joined the Portuguese Institute of Photography, where he completed the professional course with distinction, which opened the doors to an internship in the Diário de Notícias (DN). Since then, he has been working as a freelance photojournalist, in a first phase exclusively for the DN, and currently for Global Images, the agency responsible for the photography of the newspapers Diário de Notícias, Jornal de Notícias, O Jogo and the magazines News Magazine, TV News and Evasões.
His work aims to explore photography in an artistic way, working on the threshold between reality and the abstract, between the plural and the singular. In a constant search for the pictorial look, that mixes the direct and the indirect in the multifaceted everyday world. A simultaneous look at opposite directions, for parallel, complementary, or antagonistic realities. Always in search of breaking with the logical and presenting other concepts hidden on the surface of the real.
It is defined as a 'light stalker' or an eternal passionate for light.
